Thrash metal band Metallica will perform at Download Festival, Donington Park on this year with his best-selling Black album.

Download Festival 2012 will run from June 8-10. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday November 18.

The group said it's 10th birthday automatically entitled to celebrate a great festival as The Black Album by fans known as the Classic will perform.

Band co-founder and drummer Lars Ulrich said: "Six years is way too long to be away from the hallowed grounds of Donington Park. We are beyond psyched and feel privileged to come back once again to soak up the energy and vibe of the most legendary of festival sites."

The band's eighth visit to Donington Park will be. Monsters of Rock festival in 1985 and in 2006 played a free festival headlined.

Andy Copping, vice president of promotions at Live Nation, said: "I am absolutely bowled over that Metallica will be playing The Black Album at the 10th anniversary of Download.

"The album is up there as one of the greatest albums of all time, everyone knows the songs.

"The Download festival has come a long way since we first started in 2003 and to have Metallica back to help us celebrate this milestone is just fantastic."

The Black Album is number one in over 25 countries and more than 25 million copies sold worldwide.

It includes hits Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Wherever I May Roam, Nothing Else Matters, and The Unforgiven.

"The way we see it is new material will take so long to write and record. When other bands do new material, it doesn't seem to get noticed and people still want to hear the old stuff.

"When I see bands play like [IRON] MAIDEN or [JUDAS] PRIEST, all these great bands, put out new stuff, it's all good, but when they play it live, the audience goes quiet on those songs, yet when they go back into 'British Steel' or 'Screaming For Vengeance', the audience comes back to life and, you know, we can see that and it's noted. It's one of those things, and it gets, like, what's the point in doing those things if it takes so long to do the thing then for people to catch on? Especially for bands like TWISTED, it's been so long between albums. It's one thing when you're current and people are following each album, but for some of the '80s bands, there are a lot of years between albums and coming up with a new one can be tough. . . We'll see what happens in the future, but at the moment it looks like a no for new TWISTED SISTER stuff."

Eddie said, "It's just one of those things and we're glad it's still happening. It's kinda hard to explain, because you never really know why, and all of a sudden people just seemed to get it more than they ever did or they're just getting it. It kinda creates that interest and people want to hear us because we are different and we're not really similar to other bands and what they do. We have something that's unique and it's still something people want to see and there are a load of people who never got the chance to see us back in the day."

Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliot has performed down the furore over the band being the second time in three years when he claimed that more murmurs were announced in 2009 that he says he quickly won the crowd were more than , Download Festival has a headline slut.

British rock legends the festival closed two years he will headline the opening night this time around and Elliott reckons that only one of a host of reasons why he has no worries on the back.

In an exclusive interview with RockAAA Elliott also revealed the band will be freshening set list, while they hope their new tracks for some of the time will be a crowd favorite.

He said: “We didn’t have any reservations but I was a little shocked that it came so soon but Andy Copping explained it was for all the right reasons. There have been a few negatives with people asking why they are on again so soon but most have been positive and to be honest there were more negatives the first time we came back on, never mind this time and we pulled it off then.

“I’m happy that we’re back at Download and I think it’s a good thing. We were doing Download in 2009 as kind of the end of a project but this is the start of one and our first proper gig just four days after the album comes out and hopefully ‘Undefeated’ which is on the radio just now will have sunk into the DNA of the fans and it is a new song we can play and we’ll be changing the set around from last time too.

“It is the spiritual home of Rick’s rebirth as a musician. I don’t know if we can top what I said in 2009 which is on the DVD and was spur of the moment but it is a case of re-achievement more than anything else. We nailed the fact we belonged top of the bill. This time round the difference is it is the Friday night instead of the Sunday night.

“Last time there was a danger that being the last band on people could have said they wanted to miss the traffic and leave but from what I could tell, even when we were doing the end of the encore, we couldn’t see the back of the people so now I suppose we’ve been promoted as we don’t have that to worry about.”

Leppard guitarist Vivien Campbell in recent months but both Download Festival Bill Elliott for being thin band was still moonlighting with Lizzy does it not expected to work double shifts.

Elliott continued, “Vivien is back from his loan spell and Lizzy have just been promoted to the Premier League so he’s coming back”.

“He is doing one last hurrah with them at Slane and literally the next day we start rehearsing.

Ahead of Leppard’s return Elliott is currently on the road with his side-project the Down N’ Outz which he says takes him back to the early and more humble days with Leppard.
He added:

“Being on tour with the Down N’ Outz is totally different. It’s low-key, low-budget and it’s like going on a camping holiday instead of staying in the Four Season’s and that’s the fun of it.

“It’s like taking all the experience that you’ve gained over the past 30-years and taking it back to the first Def Leppard tour in 1980 which was done in a little van with little gear opening for Sammy Hagar or something like that.

“I don’t miss it but I enjoy it and I like to do both – if you can do that. If we were to do this with Leppard it would look like we had lost a lot of stature so I wouldn’t want to do that because as far as I’m concerned we should be going up and up and up.

“But with the Down N’ OutzI want to take it as far as it can go but you have to go in at ground level like special guests at the High Voltage Festival or as guests of Paul Rodgers. It just gives us more opportunities to expose ourselves to different crowds.

“Most of them on this tour will be Paul Rodgers fans but some of them will have heard who we are. For example Newcastle was definitely his crowd while Sheffield was definitely ours.

“It’s a good mixture and Paul did personally request us on the tour. I’ve kind of said to him ‘thanks for taking us on the tour’ but he said ‘no, thanks for being on it.’

“I wonder if it came via the Mott The Hoople thing or it could just have been the fact Cynthia Rodgers and my wife e-mail each other all the time and it’s maybe sown a seed in Cynthia’s head to bring us out. I don’t know, it’s intriguing but it’s a question yet to be answered.”

Download Festival's organizer Andy Copping said that he does not confirmed Metallica to perform in this year festival because they have toured the UK too frequently.

Speaking to RockAAA, the organiser said of his decision: "I booked Def Leppard because they deserve it, because they are big enough to do it."

The Darkness have confirmed to make a new album this spring and perform the Download Festival in June.

Band frontman Justin Hawkins told BBC Newsbeat that he was his brother Dan, also an original band members for years with making new music.

He said, "It was frustrating for a long time to not be able to tell anybody because we've had to sort of keep it a secret. It was like a forbidden romance without the trail."

The band's original line-up reuniting, which are also drummer Ed Graham and bassist Frankie Poullain facilities.

Hawkins added, "The main thing for us is to make sure that musically we turn the experience into something positive again".

Evile band have been announced that they confirmed to perform at the UK's Download Festival, as well as Masters of Rock in the Czech Republic.

The event in this year which takes place at the Victoria Park in London on run 23rd and 24th July.

Bassist Joel Graham comments: "It's awesome to be added to the High Voltage festival - for the name Evile to be on the same poster that contains the such legendary names of Judas Priest, Jethro Tull, Dream Theater and Queensryche is an absolute mind f**k... It's amazing. More than a couple of us in Evile are prog fans so I'm sure we'll be hanging around the Prog Stage a lot. For me personally, I became a huge Jethro Tull fan after doing a deal with my father; he agreed to take me to see Anthrax when I was about 11, if in return he could take me to see Tull around the same time, so he got me hooked. Ol (Drake) also has a very uncanny likeness to a young Ian Anderson, so I'm hoping they bump into each other over the weekend."

They have also booked a UK show with Taiwanese metallers Chthonic, which takes place at the Underworld in London on 18th March next Friday.

In the interview he said, "Metallica are a great band but if they went away for three or four years then came back then they'd be even bigger. When they keep coming back they become boring. Metallica have toured extensively and have been here for seven of the last eight summers. For me that is definitely overdoing it."
